Player registration is now open for the Pine Hills teams to play in the 2017/18 Brisbane Hockey junior indoor season. Click the "Register" button at the bottom of the page to begin.
From past experience, juniors who play indoor hockey return to outdoor hockey the following season as much improved players, particularly those who have not been playing for long. We would encourage all juniors to consider playing the indoor season.
What is Indoor Hockey?
Indoor Hockey is similar to outdoor (field) hockey, however there are some key differences:
- smaller playing court with sideboards, so the ball remains in play for longer
- reduced number of players on court - 6 a side including goalkeeper, so players are constantly involved
- no hitting or slapping the ball; no raising the ball off the floor except to shoot; no tackling from behind
- junior games are 18 minute halves - while this may seem short, games are high intensity and faster than outdoor
Season information
Who
Open to boys & girls who are turning 9 to 17 in 2018 (year of birth - 2001-2009). New players are most welcome.
Where
All games are played at Kedron State High School sports hall.
When
All junior games are played on Sundays.
The lower divisions (younger/inexperienced players) play mornings, the middle divisions play around lunchtime while the older/higher divisions play in the afternoons. Once our teams are graded into a division, their game time will be the same each week.
We hope to organise a couple of training sessions before the first game to allow teams to gain an understanding of the rules and skills required for indoor hockey - more details tba.
There is no additional training commitment during the season - just the games on the Sundays.
Competition details
Teams play 10 games plus finals. Games run from 1 October through to 10 December (higher divisions may also play 17 December), break over Christmas, then 21 January through to 25 February.
Junior divisions are graded on ability & experience, not age. In general there are 12 divisions with 5 teams in each division, with four teams going through to the finals.
Registration & Uniforms
Registration fee - $135 per player, due in full by 22 September.
Players who did not play outdoor hockey in 2017 are also required to pay an insurance levy to Hockey Qld - details tba
Uniform requirements: Pine Hills playing shirt & shorts/skirts, navy socks. Shin guards and mouth guards are required.
