Boys Indoor Hockey Teams 2016/17 Season

Player registration is now open for the Pine Hills boys indoor hockey teams for the 2016/17 Brisbane Hockey junior indoor season. Click the green "Register Now" button at the bottom of this news item to begin.

Indoor hockey presents a great opportunity for new players to try hockey and for current outdoor players to keep their skills up over summer.

Season information
Open to boys who are turning 10 to 17 in 2017. New players are most welcome.

All games are played at Kedron State High School sports hall.

All junior games are played on Sundays. There is no additional training commitment throughout the season - just the games on the Sundays.

The lower divisions (younger/inexperienced players) play mornings while the older/higher divisions play in the afternoons. Once our teams are graded into a division, their game time will be the same each week.

Teams play 12 games plus finals through the season. Games run from 2 October through to 18 December, break over Christmas, then 22 January through to 5 March.

Registration & Uniforms
- Registration fee - $135 per player
(Note: new players may also be required to pay an additional insurance levy to Hockey Qld - details tba)
- Uniform requirements: Pine Hills playing shirt ($44, ordered through Pine Hills website), navy shorts and navy socks.
Pine Hills Hockey playing shorts & socks are fine to wear and available for new players to purchase if desired
- Shin guards and mouth guards strongly recommended

What is Indoor Hockey?
Indoor Hockey is similar to outdoor (field) hockey, however there are some key differences:
- smaller playing court with sideboards so the ball remains in play longer
- reduced number of players on court - 6 a side including goalkeeper
- no hitting the ball, no raising the ball off the floor except to shoot, no tackling from behind
- junior games are 18 minute halves

Girls 11D (2) vs Valleys (Game 2) (0)

Back at it for the second, thirty minute game and their last fixture for the season, our girls still had their fluorescent yellow striped faces to give them extra energy.

Within the first ten minutes Alex raced up and scored a fantastic goal off her back stick and set the girls up to keep their winning streak going. Gabby had great energy, chasing and passing the ball and carrying out some super strong tackles.  Audrey  pressured the opposition for the whole half game and kept up the strong tackling. Piper looked for good spots to send her hits from the top of the circle and executed some powerful passes.  Georgina's perseverance with her tackling was just amazing, she did some great hits and kept running even though her injury still had her limping a bit. Shanae played up high and out wide and went straight to the post to position herself to tap the ball in if needed when Kailei ran up with the ball and scored the second goal for the day then continued her good game with many great passes and runs up high. Jessica showed great control of the ball, performed some perfect passing and was constantly fabulous backing up and pushing the ball back up the field again. Lizzie kept to her position really well moving up and back with the flow of the game and tackling when the ball came down to her. Sophie was really good keeping on her toes in goals, waiting for play to come down her end and keeping her eye on the game.  Tiffany was running her little legs off and kept the pressure up for the whole thirty minutes.  Eden had heaps of runs up the field and many attempts at the goals and was just unlucky to not get through the opposition's goalie.

Our girls were amazing playing their last fixture as a super powerful team!  I am so proud of all the girls and Coach David for coming so far this season. For a group of girls that have either never played hockey before or have never played on a full sized field to come together and be guided by a very enthusiastic, fantastic Dad that has given so much of his time and energy to be playing in a Sudden Death final next weekend is an enormous achievement.

Shanae and I are already working on a streamer arch for our champions to run through as they take the field for their first shot at the finals on a full field on the 27th.

next Saturday for your game against Pine Rivers

If you have any ideas for fun games that we can all play at the park on Sunday afternoon, let me know or just bring along what we might need (hoola hoops, balls, potato sacks etc.).

See you at training at 5:30pm Thursday night.

Girls 11D (3) vs Valleys (Game 1) (0)

The girls played two, thirty minute, half games against Valleys on Saturday to make up for the rained out day a couple of months back. (I think we should've told them it was two, thirty minute games all the time, their energy levels were great and they played like the terrific team they are)!

Eden scored the first goal of the match almost straight after the hooter and played a great game staying up high, tackling and running like the wind. Kailei scored both the second and third goals of the game and took a few other great shots at the box but unfortunately the opposition's goalie did a good job of stopping them. Gabby showed us some amazing, strong tackles and great ball control before passing the ball. Audrey was applying lots of pressure to the opposition and changed the play from one side to the other with her hits and pushes. Shanae did great work clearing the ball out of the circle and along with Piper who kept chasing the ball and Tiffany who just kept tackling we had a dynamic defending team who, kept Sophie out of the firing line for most of the game, leaving her to keep her eyes on the play and only having to defend the goal a couple of times.  Georgia played her first game on the field since the beginning of the season and blitzed the field, running, tackling and chasing the ball at every opportunity.  Jessica showed us some powerful passes up to the forwards and was always there to provide some fabulous defence too.  Lizzie showed off some fancy stick work and solid passes and Alex showed us some smashing passes and also positioned herself really well throughout the game.

After this game Coach David suggested the girls took a quick 5 minute "warm up" before their second game for the day ;)
